Audio Visual Services

The Media Services Office offers a wide range of Audio Visual services that enhance instruction.   These Audio Visual services include duplication of audio/video tapes for classroom use or self-access, conversion of video tapes between foreign standards such as NTSC and SECAM to the Australian PAL video standard.   The Office also   offers transformation of Video 8 and digital data to VHS format.   Full copyright information MUST always be provided for any of the Audio Visual services mentioned above.

Copyright Issues

Under the Educational Purposes provision of Part VA of the Copyright Act, 1974 and through a licencing agreement with Screenrights Association, the University is permitted to record broadcasts received from free-to-air television, radio or through our satellite television facility.   This covers recordings used for teaching and research purposes at the University. Staff members in Language Departments may request that programs be recorded and added to the HLC video collection or to their departmental resource library for the cost of any materials.   Staff from other University departments may also request off air recordings and audio and video dubbing at a small service charge.

Any other AV duplication is subject to compliance with strict copyright requirements. All off air recordings must contain titles, details of presenter/s, dates of broadcast and broadcast station.   Commercially produced materials cannot be duplicated unless permission is granted by the copyright holder.   Click here to go to the University of Melbourne Guide to Copyright.
